Let’s Play Catch Up, Shall we?

Let me tell you guys the shameful thing that just happened ~ while trying to log on here just now, I forgot my login details… TWICE! *hangs head* It’s been that long…

For the better part of March, all of April and up until yesterday, I have not had ONE day of doing nothing/rest; and I’m only just finding out[much to my disappointment] that I simply cannot do it all. I’m no superwoman, something had to give and sadly the blog was part of the collateral damage.

I’ve been swamped! Proper swamped. Still… I apologise.

Let me get y’all up to speed on the whirlwind that is sometimes my life. See, I meant to share all these as separate posts and that’s exactly why I ended up in this predicament as there was never time and it just kept piling so let me just sparsely share for now, pending when I can be more detailed.

Let’s get to it.

ONE

One of my closest [and oldest] friends was getting married and so I [together with her sister] planned and threw her a surprise bridal shower.

No big deal right? Wrong!

First off, I’ve never thrown anyone a shower before so I was the rookiest of all rookies which basically meant, tons of higi haga crinkum crankum gbish gbish gbo gba! Ha ha. But in the end, we pulled it all off, my friend was somewhat surprised [pesky colleague ratted us out].

It was a simple shower, we rented out a suite at Protea and basically had a girlie evening/slumber pyjama party.

We had booze.. of course! I also made my world famous punch!

We had cake and so much food [which I forgot to take pictures of]

We all dressed up in gloves and fascinators like some fancy sophisticated women as we danced, ate and laughed into the night

img_2410-2.jpg

We spent the next day poolside, played water games, feasted on some leftovers and generally unwinded.

It was perfect! She loved it so much, she shed a few happy tears and all was well with the world.

TWO

It was my friend Boki’s birthday and another friend of hers threw her a lovely house party which I was invited to. It was so much fun. I don’t know what it is *cough*old age*cough* but I find that I’d much rather be at a house party these days than out clubbing or a full on dressy-outty type shindig.

Kisses for the birthday girl

This is definitely top 3 of my favourite photos of us Boks.

If you follow me on snapchat [which I hope you do], I bet you got more than an eyeful of what can happen when Boki and I and the usual suspects get together in one space. Mayhem! Lol.

It was a lovely evening. Happy Birthday Again Boks.

THREE

My only brother got traditionally married.

Mr & Mrs Ali Martin Tordue

As we arrived our in-laws’ village, this banner greeted us at the main road….. I immediately got emotional. It was surreal…..

First Outfit

Our beautiful bride with her maidens

When she found her husband……

When they were tasked with feeding each other… symbolizing their taking care of one another.

Our beautiful bride… Gorgeous smile

My mum simply couldn’t contain herself… She danced and danced and danced and danced all day until night came and when we moved back to our Makurdi home and she was STILL dancing #TrueStory

Mummy and Me

As for me ~ Sister of the Groom ~ I don’t think I need to reiterate how seriously I took my role, by first of all ensuring that I looked the part!

You really should be following my social media pages [snapchat especially] because trust and believe that EVERY angle of this Slayage was very well documented for all to enjoy. Y’all already know I’m vain as hell. Ha ha

Wishing my brother and his new bride the very best of married life. I love you both dearly.

FOUR

Wednesday, 4th May….. It was my birthday.

If you know me, you know that I love to make a big deal of my birthdays and I start counting down to it from weeks preceding – as evidenced here and here and here from last year.

However, something bigger overtook my day this year…. My friend, who’s bridal shower I talked about up there was finally taking the traditional plunge. ON MY BIRTHDAY. What joy!

It was such a beautiful day.

photo-13.jpg

If I’m being totally honest, I loved that it took the pressure off me and I was so busy running around that I didn’t have time to poke pins in voodoo dolls of anyone who didn’t send me a wish. It’s usually that serious. Ha ha. However, by the time I got to settle down and catch up, the outpouring of best wishes was truly overwhelming. Thank you for every tweet, facebook post, text, call, raven post etc. I appreciate it, may God bless you all.

I couldn’t have asked for a better way to have spent my birthday.

FIVE

Friday, 6th May [My mum’s birthday]….. she did it in the eyes of God.

So beautiful

Per usual….. I turned up in my Sunday-best [more like Friday-best, but you get me].

I’ve never felt more beautiful in nude makeup

photo-14.jpg

My sister and I

Thickums!!!!!!

Happy married life to my dear friend Jennifer and her husband Peter. May God bless your new home.

So you see, I’ve had a rather hectic few weeks/month with all the running around and planning, so I hope you forgive me for being awol for so long. I shall do better.

It’s a promise!

If you read all the way to this point, you’re the real MVP and I thank you.

PS: Every single event mentioned in this post has been condensed to the barest but if you were following my social media pages, snapchat especially, you’d have seen that I captured everything in minute detail and I’ve been told it was enjoyable and fun to follow/watch so get on board okay. Besides, sometimes, even when i’m very quiet on here, my social media pages be popping! So do not carry last ehn?!

Who’s the champion??!!

Ladies and gentlemen, we have come to end of May Challenge…… whooop whoooop!!!

Oh and this is getting boring but as expected, I totally finished first. Again!! *flexes biceps* 😀

You really think i’m going to end it at that? You clearly don’t know me well; make way for Braggy Bose… she approaches. Sometime last week, in the heat of the #Petrocalypse that besieged our dear nation, Corporations such as MTN, GTB, Airtel, several media houses etc put out statements apologising for the skeletal services they would be putting out in the wake; it was scary. So while we are worrying about that, my dear friend Humzz decided to take advantage of the perfect window and make like GEJ. She tweets me this hilarity……

My response? I had receipts!

IMG_5905.PNG

You’d agree that i’m very gracious. Aren’t I? Lmao. I just had to! See this girl Humzz had tormented me the entire duration of this challenge; she made sure this win [if I did win] wouldn’t be an easy one for me and I hated her for it. Like i’d be sleeping and dreading what will show on my challenge board by the time I wake up because i’m sure she has gone out to do a half marathon. Come on!!! There were days her Nike app won’t update for like 3 days and i’ll be sleeping easy thinking I got this, then one day i’ll just wake up and see “you’re currently 18kms behind 1st”; Vex!!!! Confession: One day, she sprained her ankle and skipped 2 days, I was secretly hoping the leg doesn’t get better for like a week so I can give her major gap. ha ha Sorry Humzz.

So imagine my happiness, joy, contentment and relief the day she now sent this tweet out…..

Awwwwwww!!! Such a gracious loser! hhhahahahahahahahhahahahaaahaha. I replied thus:

All jokes aside, I meant that tweet. See, this whole fitfam thing started because of Humzz and she made it her business to hold me accountable everyday, relentless. I started with walks, walks turned into jogs and soon enough, I was running and I still am; I have no one to thank but her. Even with this challenge, although over 20 people signed up to participate, only 3 of those 20 ever logged in, Humzz being the biggest contender. You gave me a tough run and I appreciate you signing up and keeping me on my toes but as life usually plays out, most times, the student becomes better than the master so…. here’s to many more challenges. Come visit soon, I owe you drinks 😛

During this challenge, I noticed that I was very anxious about finishing [and finishing well] because I was so tired towards the last week of the month. Tired and bored. I didn’t realise how much work 350kms would require and even though I usually take Sundays off, during this challenge, I was working out Sundays too because I didn’t want to lag behind too far. Stress!!! And I got bored of doing the same thing, so I added T25 on some days and changed my scenery/route; Doosh and I even went to the stadium…. Love working out there.

IMG_6023.JPG

My fear with having running as my main workout is having a runner’s body – lean and athletic – During this challenge, I noticed my “yams” got stronger and my thighs more defined and I SAY NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! No Bueno. I love having curves and a soft cuddly body and I totally enjoy my midnight chats with the twins, so I’m worried about losing them and having my legs/thighs bulk up a’la Marion Jones. Nah. So i’m probably going to have to redesign my workouts, maybe reduce running to only 3 times a week and include other types of workouts. I’ll keep y’all posted.

I must say, I found it quite odd that even though about 20 people signed up for the challenge, only 4 logged in and participated; the rest have zero kms/miles and I’m very confused, what happened? Maybe they got bored with it like I did but they didn’t even log in half a kilometer EVER, so I don’t even know. Lol. Please let me know what the problem was and maybe I can fix it in our next challenge. I’m already thinking of what we can collectively do for the month of June, but seriously, I need a challenge break right now plus, next time, I need to better think a challenge through proper before rushing to share the deets with you guys. So when I do figure that out, i’ll be sure to share either here or on my twitter @GBTheBlog.

So glad its over.

During this challenge, I tried to have as many healthy smoothies as I possibly could. Having Charlotte in my life makes the smoothie experience such a breeze and fun/enjoyable moment that I think my old juicer is jealous. I’ve kuku packed in back into the box like….

download (4)

The thing with smoothies is that you have to be creative and experiment with many different mixes, worst case – you’d figure out what you DON’T LIKE while at it. Below are some of the smoothies/mixes I’ve experimented with and I hope they inspire you to go to town with yours. Don’t forget to share with me what you’re loving/hating  😀

  • Orange/Green Apple/Spinach

  • Red Apple/Plum/Cucumber/Carrot/Spinach/Protein Powder
  •
  • Orange/Pink Grapefruit/Granola/Spinach
  • IMG_5716.JPG

Alot of people get completely turned off by Green juices/smoothies because of that colour but I’m telling you, don’t knock it until you try it…. Green juices are the best pick me up juices. Infact, when I drink a green smoothie, I literally feel like my insides got a spring clean wash and my skin has been in the best state its ever been in; I know its the internal cleansing coming through. Green juices/smoothies taste of the predominant component of the mix, the colour is most likely so because green usually overpowers other colours [simple primary school colour class]…. One time I shared a green juice on twitter and one guy replied me saying “why the fuck will I ever want to drink spinach?” Walahi, I felt his anger come through in his 140s. LMAO. Just try it guys 😀

  • Cucumber/Plum/Green Apples

  • Mango/Pink Grapefruit/Carrot/Ginger

  • Pineapple/Watermelon/Pawpaw/Ginger

  IMG_5864.JPG

  • Just Oranges … I call it the citrus burst 😀

IMG_5967.JPG  IMG_5969.JPG

The pictures after this point do not belong to me, they’re just additional smoothie/juice resource that I liked and thought to share to help inspire you guys to go forth and be great.

IMG_5740-0.PNG

Guys! I’m exhausted just looking through how much options there are here, but I thought to put it all in one post where I can point people when I get those “can you please share your smoothie tips/recipes” type requests/questions.

So there you have it! Please share with me on twitter or via here when you try any – what you’re loving or hating – and feel free to tweak any mix to suit your taste palate. Now go forth and be great.

Oh and here’s a lovely selfie I took on Democracy day…. Fleek Off! Its a strong fave. Can’t wait to have full razor sharp cheekbones… one day, soon 😀

Have a great week/month ahead…. Welcome to the month of June; happy new month :p

Birthday, DIY, fitness, Happy,, Health, Juicing, Lifestyle, May, Wishlist

Charlotte

And the birthday goodies just keep rolling in! But who’s complaining? Not me though!

A few weeks before my birthday, I shared a birthday wishlist and in there, I mentioned that I really wanted a Nutribullet. Yesterday, I get a call from a konga dispatch guy and this baby got delivered.

She’s so pretty, I could cry!!!!!!

You guys! In the smoothie/juicing world, the Nutribullet is the real deal! This is premium stuff! This is the Kim in the Kardashian household, this is the Enyeama of the Nigerian football team, this is that bra you’ve had for 10 years that’s barely threads by now but still packs your twins like they’re prepubescent. You get my point! LOL. I am so excited about this and I just couldn’t sit still until I had given her a test run [but not after I’ve read the manual cover to back].  I’ve named her Charlotte [not to steal the royal baby’s thunder] but this is my princess. I shall treat her so well, she’ll love me forever. No type of epileptic power situation, NEPA and power surges shall come between us; I shall never be too tired to clean you up after use, I promise you this. Welcome to my life Charlotte, we gon be besties!!!! Just be good to me.

Like I mentioned, I’m that person who will sit down and read the fine print of a product before I use it. Yup! I’m not going to ruin something I love and is probably expensive just because I was too impatient to hold off for a few hours and check all the checkables. So as excited as I was yesterday, I still took all of my evening to read the attached User Guide, Recipe Book and Pocket nutritionist; and i’m glad I did because I noticed that it says you shouldn’t run the motor for more than 1 minute per cycle and that it has an in-built heating detector that forces the thing to stop working if it overheats – meaning, you’d have to wait till it cools down before you can use it again. Important tip because that’s the complaint many nutribullet users have – that it stops working – meaning they probably overworked the poor thing. I ain’t playing with Charlotte like that! LOL

IMG_5524.JPG IMG_5522.JPG IMG_5530.JPG IMG_5531.JPG

IMG_5525.JPG IMG_5528.JPG IMG_5526.JPG

IMG_5527.JPG IMG_5529.JPG

I also saw the it has tons of recipe inspirations in it and a 6 week program that can be helpful for anyone who wants to take up this lifestyle. Awesome.

To make a wholesome smoothie, it needs to have a combo of different stuff that generally falls in 4 broad food categories:

  • Leafy Greens – Kale, Spinach, Spring Greens, Lettuce, Collard Greens etc
  • Fruits – Mango, watermelon, Apples, Banana, Blueberry, Avocado, grapes, pear, peach, oranges, plum, raspberries, strawberries, kiwi, pawpaw, pineapple etc
  • Boosts – Nuts [almonds, cashew, walnuts], Seeds[Chia, flax,Sesame],Super chargers [goji berries, acai berries] , oats, granola etc
  • Lastly, a base – water, milk [almond, soy, lowfat], juice , unsweetended/greek yoghurt, green tea etc.

Now we know all about the shenanigans of NEPA in our dear country Nigeria so it really isn’t realistic and pocket friendly to stock up on quick perishables if they’re going to be thrown out in 3 days; so my tip is to stock on up the stuff that keeps well but only buy fruits & veggies to last a week tops. Like the stash I got on Wednesday should last me a week at least.

  IMG_5508.JPG IMG_5509.JPG IMG_5513.JPG

I always have mangoes & oranges in surplus because they’re in season and Benue is just 3 hours away. Someone is always coming or going. Win!

IMG_5502.JPG  IMG_5503.JPG IMG_5504.JPG  IMG_5519.JPG

The Boost family keeps well so I stock up and some of these have been in my kitchen for more than 6 months.

 IMG_5510.JPG

Although my preferred smoothie base is water, I haven’t sworn off others. I also add protein powder sometimes in juices for some thickness and filling.

 IMG_5516.JPG IMG_5512.JPG

Soooooooooooooooooo….. I took Charlotte for a spin this morning and made a simple Mango/Spinach/Goji Berries and Oats smoothie. I crushed some ice into it before pureeing; if you must add ice before, its better crushed because it’s easier on the blades. Full ice cubes will spoil the blades in no time.

Once my smoothie was ready [in less than a minute], I simply added ice cubes into the cup, tossed in a straw and sipped away while imagining that I was on some resort in Bali. Yea, Imagination is everything. Don’t be put off by the colour, it was proper yum. If you aren’t convinced and you know my house, come and i’ll make you some 😀 YUUUUUUMMM!!!!

This is without a doubt, the best smoothie I’ve ever made. Smooth, tasty and super easy to drink – hence the straw. Seamless passage.  There’s a reason the nutribullet is hailed as the DON DADA of smoothie makers. For you busy people, this is what you need. Load the cup before bedtime & leave in the fridge; then whiz for a minute by morning and head out the door while sipping as you go. Invest in one, you’d be glad you did.

Funny Story: I saw a tweet once that said if you’re complaining about the cost of buying healthy food/stuff and refusing to pay then you must be saving the money to pay for your medical bills. LMAO. This fitfam life is not easy/cheap but it’s totally worth it. Truly. Thankfully, I didn’t have to pay for Charlotte. God bless the person who sent me Charlotte.

PS: I hear Konga is having a sale by the 28th of this month. You may want to look out for the deal on this babe.

PPS: I made a video of Charlotte at work but i’m lazy to upload here, so i’d share on my twitter timeline so endeavour to follow me @GBTheBlog and i’ll also be sharing my daily smoothie combos on there henceforth – EVERY MORNING! So if you haven’t followed me on twitter, please do :D. Also, if you’re yet to subscribe to this blog and want to, you’d find the subscribe button on the top right corner of this page. I’d love if you subscribe :*

It’s mid-month now and May Challenge is still going strong. Have you been pushing? If you need some pick-me-up, this is the time. To start and finish strong. Yes you can!

Have a lovely weekend guys and remember to keep moving. Stay active!!! Health is Wealth!

Oh and I’m still receiving gifts, keep ’em coming 😀

Cheers xx

Birthday, fitness, Happy,, Health, Lifestyle, May

Freaky Friday

You wake up on a regular day going about your mundane mindless business not knowing what it holds for you and isn’t that just exciting? Mine was the late hours of Thursday into Friday morning. Nothing about that day seemed like it’d turn out to be post worthy, I really thought the most exciting thing about that it would be my Asos delivery plus the fact that a friend of mine was in Abuja from out of town and had mentioned he was going to take me out to dinner in the evening for my birthday. Sounds normal and simple right? Jokes!

See if you ask me, I’d describe this friend as a – pretty chill, easygoing, normal, decent, Jesus boy – so nothing had my bells ringing. It was just dinner, catching up and good conversation and I was looking forward to it. He had meetings that ran later than expected so dinner got bumped up to a lot later than I planned, which was ugh because fitfam [I feel guilty about eating late these days but it was my birthday so…exception :D] However, we could still hang out and I get to drink my weight in calories. Ha ha.

So we ended up going out in a group of his friends and their friends and it turned out to be a group of us knocking back shots, cracking crazy jokes and laughing a lot plus off-key singing of happy birthday songs. I was having a great time. Then one of the guys goes – “Make we go dance for that our place”  and all the guys go “yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees” and I’m talking to myself like S, this is not the time to be a party pooper, it’s your birthday and you’re allowed to let your hair down. So we head to this place in Wuse 2 that looks NOTHING like a place anyone would refer to as “that our place”. The security guys do a check and after some muzzled convo, we are let in. Let me say, I pass this place on a regular and nothing about the outside suggests that something happens on the other side of the fence that requires muzzled conversation and a pass to get in, but I was about to learn. We enter a room that looks like an Asian restaurant and as I make to sit down, one guy goes – “E be like say today no dey happen” and the waiter goes “ehn Oga, today na off day”, the guys all sigh dramatically and the ring leader dude goes, “make we go, I sabi another place”; and so we all file back out into the car and head to the next spot.

PS: I later gathered that this spot is an exclusive spot for some level of debauchery that I don’t think I’m ready for. Good thing it was “off day” lol

So we all drive to the next spot, turns out to be a club and I’m already dreading the fact that my hair was going to reek of smoke [and sweat] for the entire next day but me no party pooper so we get in. Some huge guy comes out to shake hands with ring leader dude and greets the rest of us profusely and leads us towards a tiny spiral staircase that I hadn’t noticed. I’m thinking – nice, at least we won’t be stuck with the mogbo-moya group – lol. We get upstairs and are led into a second room that leads to another door covered in a suede fabric and I’m thinking – how many more doors before I find myself in Alice’s fantasy land? Is this a Nollywood script? Is this the end? – but I’m no chicken, so I continue in bravely. And we are in. Small room. Really small. With a pole in the middle and in that moment, I realize I’m in a strip room [not club], but I don’t want to jump the gun. Perhaps it’s a multipurpose room which doubles as an exclusive room for special guests who don’t want to mix sweat downstairs with plebs. Ha ha. . I can bet a lot of you Abuja people go to this club regularly without realizing what’s happening upstairs or maybe y’all know and i’m the lastma lady. Per usual.

Drinks are ordered, music is way too long for any type of conversation but people still insist on talking which leads to a lot of nodding & smiling even if you don’t hear a word of what’s being said. Like the person may just have said “your mama is a bitch”, but you’ll be nodding & smiling; not to mention the stray saliva in one’s ears. Ugh! Anyways, we are sipping our drinks and swaying to the extra loud music and next thing I know there’s a nyash in my face like bam! I swear guys, I didn’t see her approach, all I know is that my head was turned for a split second and next thing somebody’s asshole is in my face. Yes, an actual ass hole. The one where shit comes out from. Buck naked!!! OMGOOOODNESS!!! How do I act? Am I breathing too fast? Does my smile look fake? So many questions/emotions.

download (2)

My face!!

Let me just say, this is my first time ever in a strip anything in Nigeria so I was so more confused than anything . This isn’t the night I signed up for. Why is this female rimming my glass with her coochie? Why is she focused on me? Why not the men? I’m not buying this product, I’m straight. I later gather, she’d been instructed to please me as it was my birthday. I was mortified. Not because I’m the holiest but it just didn’t work. First off, the room was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too small, thus the girls were too close for comfort and/or any type of sexy. I was like we were doctors examining body parts and y’all know nothing looks sexy under a microscope. I swear if I looked hard enough, i’d probably see how many eggs their ovaries produced this month and how clean the Fallopian tubes are; Too close! I held my breath so much I thought i’d pass out at some point. I felt light headed. The girls took turns, each one mounting the pole and doing her number for about 10 minutes each and they ranged from the Naomi Campbell-esque to the thickums to the never-have-an-extra-burger type bodies. Because the room was so small, the Naomi Campbell types were a hazard to everyone on the room; with their swinging hair & 50 inch heels, when they attempt to swing on the pole, the whole room would duck. Lmao. One guy actually said – “ahn ahn, you wan throway my drink?” *real tears* The thickums worked for the twerking and the lose-the-burger types…..oh well *shrugs* But I guess they needed to cater to all kinds since taste varies [as though women are icecream flavours]

I may be wrong but isn’t stripping more about selling a fantasy and holding the room captive by peeling the ropes off one long salivating moment at a time? These girls here would mount the pole, shake shake shake then completely stop, stand up, then proceed to remove their bra & pants in the most unsexy manner, like how you’d take yours off after a long day back from work or like they were about to go and poop/enter the shower and then they’d tie it around the pole like [make e no come loss] or they’d toss it to another of their stripper friend waiting by the sidelines and say in a loud voice “abeg hol am for me”  because the music was quite loud. WTF?!!!! Zero build-up, Zero anticipation, Zero sexy. That wasn’t stripping. There was this one whose bra looked like a sports bra…. No kidding! I was more amused than irritated.

But the entire time I sat there, I was wondering what would make ANYONE choose such an occupation. There were two of these chics that had legs that are longer than my entire height, they’d give any model a run for her moolah and they could be so much more than just N200 tips. Nobody even tipped while were there, instead the guys were making rude/lewd comments every minute – “E be like say this one done born o, her breast don fall” “this one belle wan choke am” etc. I reckon the girls don’t even have direct access to the cash as the pimps are the middlemen. In that moment, I just wanted to serenade them with Drake’s – Marvin’s Room[I’m just saying that you can do better] – Later as I was discussing this with a friend, she mentioned that the actual cash doesn’t come from these Friday night little room performances but from the parties they get flown out for. She said that the little friday shindigs were more like an audition for the big[ger] fish.  I was thinking – not for these crop of girls sha. They didn’t quite cut it. But on the other hand, you see how the pimps live? Who do you think is maxing out?

Anyways after one too many nipple smacks, clit flicking and stuff I can’t even type here, I was ready to go home. The ring leader guy was like – “I bet we showed you a good time! Happy birthday – and I was like indeed sir! I’ll never forget this experience. Cringe!

Yesterday I sat in a car that drove past that building and I just smiled to myself like…… Na me biko! Then I sent a text to my friend saying – I underestimated you. He replied with a devil horn smiley. Smh

***

I signed up for another challenge on Nike run after getting an invite from Anu; called the 7 Day Madathon. This challenge was to complete, run and cover 40km between  4th – 11th May (7 days) and i’m super proud to inform y’all that I FINISHED FIRST!!!!!!! And here’s the kicker, I completed my 40kms in 2 days 8 hours. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas!!!!

IMG_5098.PNG            IMG_5362.PNG

Can I gloat? When I saw the 40km challenge invite, I thought to myself that this isn’t a challenge… I do this with my eyes closed. hahahahahahha… Super stoked that I won! I’m a sore loser, so i’m very happy to have won. Congrats to everyone else who participated, its okay to be second…or third… or…… Muahahahahahaaa 😛

***

I just returned from Benue where I ate pounded yam for breakfast, at lunch and at dinner. I kid you not! But I don’t even feel once small ounce of guilt, I don’t eat pounded yam often so when I get the chance, I use it well. My sister made this soup ehn… Best!!! And I got to meet the new addition to our family – Baby Afa – too precious. So now I have 4 babies, i’m a proud aunty. My quiver is indeed full.

Btw, May Challenge is still ongoing and I feel great! Are you moving? I hope so!

Have a nice week guys.

Love

S.

Birthday shenanigans

Guys!!!! Seember had the best birthday ever!!!!! I’m still on the birthday high even as I type this. It was small and intimate and had no extra frills but it was perfect. Nothing like an entire day dedicated to catering to your every whim by good friends and family.

Last year, my birthday fell on a Sunday so I started the day in church – rightly so. This year however, it fell on a Monday but it wasn’t a problem. Once I noticed it would be on a Monday, I made a date with Jesus for the 3rd; woke up bright and early and went to thank him for my life.  Took selfies after church because….. Vain-Seember!

So… 4th came!!! My phone started buzzing almost immediately. Lots of singing [frog voices and all] :P, lots of prayers, lots of tweets, lots of facebook notifications, lots of bbms, whatsapp messages. I had to turn the phone off at some point just to catch some zzzzzzzzzzzzzz(s) seeing as I still had to run at 6am. I already knew I was going to eat like a cow during the day so I had no choice but to exercise. Woke up and headed out by 6:30am and look….

I fucking kicked ass! 15.5kms – 933 calories burnt. Whoop! I could now sit back, eat well and enjoy my day. And that’s exactly what I did.

My dear Boks & Achike were prompt and early and came bearing gifts of cake, HRM and Mac makeup. Can I talk about my cake for a bit? Okay! Listen! You have never had cake like this, I’m telling you. Double gooey chocolate with a hazelnut center filling and coconut topping. Achike and I started eating it before I remembered to take a picture so forgive the missing toppings ….. But look at this beauty. Tasted like good decisions and happy fat! My taste buds sang the Halleluya chorus… Handel’s. [Thank you guys so much Boks & Achike for my presents, I loved them]

Say my name!!!!

I made my winning jollof rice & peppered turkey. It never fails, everyone loved it. I forgot to take pictures because that’s what happens when you’re having a blast! Managed to find a haphazard one of the peppered turkey but it’ll have to do. Peep the protein powder in the corner…. Fitting irony because fitfam was parked in one corner just like that. Lol

Our friend Oria joined the gang after work with booze and icecream. Chai!!! So after all that rice and whatnot what did I do? I served the cake with a dollop of icecream and then drizzled baileys all over it. Yes guys, its not a coincidence that my waistline is thick, I sabi chop and I sabi mix am.  ha ha. PS: Guys, this Olmeca flavoured tequila is the shit! Serve it on the rocks with nothing else and thank God for good living. Yum!!

We spent the rest of the day just laughing, teasing each other, gossiping, knocking back endless drinks, banter and all round fun. My friend Teni also joined us at night, she came to eat cake, but ended up eating rice too while wearing her gym clothes… lmao.

My sister posted the sweetest message on Instagram for me. Look at that – Me and my baby girl…. Miss Iveren. Then she sent me more pictures. Too cute. That third one looks like she’s saying “Happy birthday to youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu” but I think it looks more like a tantrum “Noooooooooooooooooooooo”…. We need to work on her lip-synching skills. ha ha. Look at her hair; Nigerian women is it by force to make your baby’s 5 strands of hair? lol

Then look at what Wandoo posted on her Instagram page for me……. Walahi, my eyes started sweating! How sweet and touching!

I love my family. I really do. And these messages touch a part of my heart that sings; thank you my dear. Mom called too, she says there’s pounded yam waiting for me in Benue this weekend. Best! My brother waltzed into my room in the afternoon to tell me that he’s been trying to post a birthday wish on my facebook wall but its not working. I’m like, shey its too much trouble to just come to my room and wish me a happy birthday? Facebook is better abi? LOL. He’s a special one.

It was a beautiful day indeed. May 4th.

So I woke up the next day feeling like a beached whale. After all that food and misbehavior, I knew I had to exercise. But God was merciful, it was raining so I had an excuse to not be out at 6am. Thankfully, the weather remained cool all day and so I headed out in the afternoon, armed with me new HRM [thank you Boki] and look….. 2hrs 36mins, 15.7km and 1322 calories later; I was feeling like Usain Bolt! Bye beached whale. ha!

You know, I’ve always wondered what the disparity is between the stats registered on the Nike app vs one on a HRM and I guess its finally settled. The Nike app logged in 957 calories while the HRM logged in 1322; a whopping difference of almost 4oo calories. Woah! So basically, I need to go back and add almost 4oo calories to all my workout stats prior to using the HRM. I like knowing and seeing my efforts in such accuracy. With this HRM, its quite unlikely that I’d miss a day of workout, I want to see over 1000 on my wrist every damn day because my middle name is overkill. Yes! 😀

When I go out to exercise, I pretty much look like something a cow chewed and spat out! No effort whatsoever. Add that to all the sweating and i’m surprised I’ve gotten toasted on my runs. Sidebar: I love you Nigerian men, y’all are awesome for a girl’s self esteem. Anyways, I was saying…. After i’m done working out, I get back home, shower and primp up and……….. LOOK AT THAT!!!

I CLEAN UP NICE AND I SAY SO MYSELF.

I’m such a beautiful girl. Ahn! See God was just showing off when he made me. It’s not bragging if its true. Lol.

Funny Story: One cool evening, dressed in baggy slacks, a tank top & shades [far difference from my workout clothes];I decided to walk through my usual run route to go buy something in games village and the security guys at the American school that always hail me when i’m running didn’t say a word to me. I said – oga una well done oooo – and they responded rather casually. Next day, I’m running past in my workout garbage chic look and its back to some very enthusiastic “Ah, sister, well done ooooo”. Lol. Apparently, they didn’t recognize me the previous day. I looked too much like a human being. Lol.  Cool story over.

All in all, I had the best birthday. I’m so thankful for everyone who called me, sent messages, bought me gifts, dashed me money and wished me well. May God bless each one of you and may you have people be just as kind to you. I had people come and go till about midnight and I was sad the day had to end. But even though my day ended, I’ve still been on a birthday high – the gifts are still coming in, the messages & calls haven’t stopped and it still feels like birthday at mi casa. Infact, i’m typing this with one hand because my dear Hauwa just sent me TWO packs of precious KULUWINGS!! In two different flavours. Lord hammacy! Guys, I have to go… *licks fingers*

Truly, I AM BLESSED! I may not have much, but I am loved and the love flowed freely. I cannot thank you guys enough, may God bless you all.

PS: Wondering about my birthday wishlist? I think it deserves a post of its own. Sometime soon.

Cheers xx
